I am often asked, ‘Why do you love working at Tillo?’ or ‘What’s your favourite thing about working at Tillo?’ and it’s not as easy to answer as you might think; there are so many things that make Tillo a unique, and incredible place to work. So, I put myself on a mission to clearly define who a Tillian is and why others would want to become one. This led me to the idea of creating an Employee Value Proposition (EVP).
Haiilo tells us that the modern definition of EVP is ‘an ecosystem of support, recognition, and values that an employer provides to employees to achieve their highest potential at work.’
As a fast-growing business that is focused on sticking true to our values as an employer, we knew a defined Employee Value Proposition would be key to attracting and retaining amazing people. Internally, we knew the answer to ‘Why would someone want to work at Tillo?’, we do so many amazing things as a team, we look after each other, and we provide a great environment to work in - but we don’t want to keep that within Tillo, we want to share it and make sure everyone knows the answer to ‘Why Tillo?’
A genuine EVP cannot be created by just one person or even one department. To truly capture the essence of Tillo, we knew we needed input from everyone; our people are what drive us forward and make us the business we are, so we wanted to hear from each of them on what our EVP should involve.
We were fortunate enough to take a company-wide trip to Croatia earlier this year, an incredible opportunity to take a step back and celebrate our success! During the trip, we utilized the fact that almost all Tillian’s could be in one room together by getting their input on the EVP.
We divided the team into groups of 10 and asked them to personify Tillo and come up with some descriptive words that they think define us. We wanted to get a deep understanding of how they view the business and the people who make it up. When we returned, we put everything together and created a word cloud to highlight the most common words and encompass all of the elements that our team thinks of when they picture a Tillian.
At this point, I knew I needed to get some support from someone who is great with words, so of course, I got Sophia Whitham, our content expert, to help me out! We took these words and started brainstorming, creating ideas that could become our EVP.
There are so many great things to say about the culture at Tillo, so it’s hard to define clearly and concisely, but we wanted to keep it short and sweet to ensure we stand out in a sea of employers.
We shared our thoughts with our leadership team, ensuring voices from each department were heard. After numerous brainstorming sessions, we settled on:
